Your bike adventure begins along the Vltava River, leaving Prague via scenic riverside cycling paths.
Soon you reach Veltrusy Castle, a beautiful baroque chateau surrounded by a large English-style landscaped park — a peaceful and elegant stop early in the ride.
Continue through Kralupy nad Vltavou and pass Nelahozeves, birthplace of composer Antonín Dvořák, before arriving in Mělník, where the Vltava meets the Elbe beneath a hilltop castle.
Enjoy views over the river confluence, explore the castle grounds, or relax with a drink overlooking the vineyards.

From Mělník, you continue north along the Elbe River, cycling through fertile countryside and passing historic Czech towns that have developed along this important trade route for centuries.
The route leads through Roudnice nad Labem, home to a large baroque château overlooking the river — one of the most significant noble residences in Bohemia.
Further along, you reach Terezín, an impressive 18th-century fortress originally built by Emperor Joseph II. During World War II, Terezín was used as a concentration camp and ghetto. Today, it serves as a memorial and museum, offering visitors the opportunity to reflect on this important and difficult chapter of European history.
Continuing along peaceful riverside paths, you arrive in Litoměřice, one of the oldest towns in the Czech Republic, founded in the 10th century. The town is known for its colourful baroque square, historic cathedral, and relaxed atmosphere. Surrounded by vineyards, Litoměřice also lies within one of the country’s traditional wine regions.
Take time to explore the town’s charming streets, visit the cathedral, or enjoy a glass of local wine in the evening.

Leaving Litoměřice, you continue along the Elbe River as the landscape begins to change. The wide agricultural plains gradually narrow into the dramatic valley known as Porta Bohemica (The Gate of Bohemia) — one of the most scenic sections of the entire Czech Elbe route.
Here the river cuts through volcanic hills and steep slopes, creating panoramic views above the water. The cycling remains comfortable and mostly flat, following well-maintained riverside paths.
Passing through Ústí nad Labem, an important industrial and river port city, you witness another layer of Czech history — from trade routes and heavy industry to modern transformation.
As you continue north, sandstone formations begin to rise in the distance, announcing your approach to Děčín, a town surrounded by dramatic rock landscapes.
Above the town stands Děčín Castle, perched high on a sandstone cliff overlooking the Elbe. The castle offers spectacular views across the valley and is well worth a visit before enjoying a relaxed evening in town.

Today’s stage is shorter in distance but rich in natural beauty and options for hiking and river ride.

Leaving Děčín, you enter the protected landscapes of Bohemian Switzerland National Park, one of the most impressive natural areas in the Czech Republic. The river valley narrows as towering sandstone cliffs and forested hills surround the route.
You pass through Hřensko, located at the lowest point of the Czech Republic and a small border town where Czech and German cultures meet.
Optional activities on this day include a hike to the iconic Pravčická Gate, the largest natural sandstone arch in Europe, or a boat ride through the romantic gorges of the Kamenice River.
Crossing the border into Germany, you enter Saxon Switzerland National Park and continue to the historic spa town of Bad Schandau, known for its peaceful atmosphere and thermal baths.

The final stage follows the Elbe deeper into Saxony.
Shortly after departure, you may choose to visit the famous Bastei Bridge, dramatically suspended above the Elbe canyon, offering breathtaking views across the sandstone formations. Another optional detour is the impressive Königstein Fortress, one of the largest hilltop fortifications in Europe.
Continuing along smooth riverside paths, you pass through the charming historic town of Pirna, known as the “Gateway to Saxon Switzerland.”
As the landscape gradually opens, you approach Dresden, a city with a complex and powerful history. Severely damaged during World War II and rebuilt during the post-war period, Dresden has regained its place as one of Germany’s most important cultural centres.
Highlights include the Zwinger Palace, the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), the Semper Opera House, and the Royal Palace complex.
Your Elbe River journey concludes in this elegant baroque city.
